For the Iranian-Canadian composer, Fariborz Lachini, writing music has been a thirty-year
journey of creative expression with roots in colorful and less heard Middle Eastern melodies.
Having enjoyed the success in the world of pop music just before Iran's Islamic Revolution in his early twenties by creating music for the some of today's Persian pop icons and music for children, he moved to France to study music and computers when most kinds of music became banned in Iran after the revolution.
Living in Europe and studying at „Universite de Paris - Sorbonne” not only added a European accent to his music and influenced his style to a distinctive beautiful fusion of contemporary Persian and European styles, but also equipped him with the technology that immediately put him in a unique position when he entered the world of film music by creating exotic Middle Eastern sampled instruments. The score for the Berlin special mention winner, [ میهمان گرامی برای مشاهده لینک ها نیاز به ثبت نام دارید] is an example of this where Variety comments: „... The exceptional music is a computerized version of traditional southern Iranian percussion. Soundtrack sets the pace and signals both danger and action throughout the film.”
With the release of his solo piano album, [ میهمان گرامی برای مشاهده لینک ها نیاز به ثبت نام دارید], in early nineties he crossed all the barriers and the album quickly became the most popular record album in Iran and made his name a household name as the godfather of Iran's contemporary piano. A track from this album is now featured on iTunes Essentials - Classical World compilation highlighting him as a one of the few artists who contributed to classical music but are not from East.
Fariborz Lachini has scored for some hundred of motion picture projects, and is recognized as one of the most innovative composing talents in Middle-East. He has composed for most Iranian internationally acclaimed film-makers such as: Masoud Kimiai, Rasul Sadr-Ameli, Kambuzia Partovi, Kiumars PourAhmad, Sirus Alvand, Iraj Ghaderi. From his most recent works is Iraq's choice for Oscars 2006, Variety wrote about [ میهمان گرامی برای مشاهده لینک ها نیاز به ثبت نام دارید] soundtrack: „... with Fariborz Lachini's mournful acoustic music leaving a haunting aural residue in pic's wake.”
As more and more artful Iranian films are making their names in festivals around the globe, his reputation as a leading composer for the memorable heart-felt melodies and cinematic musical themes builds up, crossing the cultural borders.
